Mark Sanchez not happy after Jets practice brawl

Mark Sanchez has never been known as a vocal leader, but a fight at New York Jets training campbrought some fire out of the belly of the fourth-year quarterback.

The drama started when cornerback D'Anton Lynn pushed running back Joe McKnight out of bounds during Monday's early practice. McKnight threw the ball at Lynn, the two went at each other, and soon around 20 players were piled on top of each other.
Sanchez wasn't happy about it, and he spoke up.
"There's no excuse for it. There's no throwing a ball at a teammate," the quarterback said, according to Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger. "There's no shoving a guy out of bounds into the signs."
"One, it doesn't look good and two, it sends the wrong message to our team. We want to take care of our guys," he said. "You throw the ball at somebody in a game, you are going to get 15 yards. I don't know if that's a great habit to get into."

Justin Blackmon, Jacksonville Jaguars reach contract

The last remaining rookie holdout is coming to work.
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Monday that the team and the No. 5 overall draft pick, Justin Blackmon, have agreed to terms on a contract. Blackmon is expected to sign his contract Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Brandon Weeden named Cleveland Browns starter

With a rookie quarterback set to turn 29 in October, the Cleveland Browns have no plans to take it slow with Brandon Weeden.
Proclaiming "there's no looking back," Browns coach Pat Shurmur announced Monday that Weeden will be the team's starting quarterback to begin the 2012 season, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer.

Terrell Owens, Seattle Seahawks agree on contract

At long last, Terrell Owens is back in the NFL.
The veteran wide receiver agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, according to NFL Network contributor and FOX Sports Insider Jay Glazer. The Seahawkslater confirmed the agreement.
NFL.com and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport -- citing a source with knowledge of the situation -- reported that the deal is for the 10-year veteran's minimum of $925,000, with $640,000 counting against the salary cap.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints finalize $100M contract

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints officially finalized the All-Pro quarterback's five-year, $100 million contract on Sunday.
Brees and the Saints reached an agreement Friday on the terms of a new deal, which includes $60 million in guaranteed money and a $37 million signing bonus. Brees will earn $40 million in the first year of the contract, and the $20 million yearly average salary makes it the NFL's richest.
The deal gives the Saints flexibility in the short term. With the bonuses counting against the cap on a pro-rated basis over the life of the contract -- $7.4 million per year in Brees' case -- Brees will only count $10.4 million against the Saints' salary cap in 2012.

Wes Welker reportedly not expecting Patriots deal

The New England Patriots and franchised wide receiver Wes Welker have until 4 p.m. ET on Monday to reach a multiyear deal. As of Saturday night, Welker's camp would be surprised if a deal is reached, a source close to the wideout told Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston.

Johnathan Joseph: Texans are a first-class franchise

Cornerback Johnathan Joseph left the Cincinnati Bengals last season after five seasons with the team and signed a five-year, $48.75 million contract that included $23.5 million in guaranteed money with the Houston Texans. In his first season in Houston, Joseph had four interceptions, earned Pro Bowl honors for the first time, and made note of several differences between the two organizations.

"The first thing about Houston is it's an organization run from a different perspective," Joseph told Barry Byers of The Herald in a Sunday Q&A. "In Cincy, the team lives off money it earns from football. Houston's owner has other business interests and he controls the money."

Adrian Peterson's lawyer says Vikings star a victim

Adrian Peterson's attorney says the Minnesota Vikings running back did not resist arrest over the weekend, blaming the Houston Police Department for an incident that briefly put the star behind bars.
We suggested earlier Monday that Peterson's decision to hire former Roger Clemens attorney Rusty Hardin was a sign that Peterson was ready to aggressively fight back in court. That much is clear after Hardin released a statement Monday, via NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.
"Adrian Peterson did not resist arrest this past Saturday morning and any suggestion that he pushed, struck or shoved a Houston police officer is a total fabrication," the statement reads. "He, in fact, was struck at least twice in the face for absolutely no legitimate reason, and when all the evidence is impartially reviewed, it will clearly show Adrian was the victim, not the aggressor.

Adrian Peterson says 'truth will surface' after arrest

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson did what any of us would do in making his first comments after being arrested at a nightclub.
He quoted Winston Churchill.
Two minutes later, All Day followed with this:
Here's the truth as we know it: Peterson was arrested early Saturday at a Houston nightclub on a charge of resisting arrest. He spent the rest of the night in jail and was released on a $1,000 bond at 10:14 a.m. CT.
Houston Police Department spokesman Kese Smith told NFL.com and NFL Network that Peterson allegedly pushed an off-duty police officer who was working security at Live! at Bayou Place.
While the truth gets its pants on, it's worth noting the incident was reportedly captured on one or more surveillance cameras inside the club. Up with the zipper, out with the facts.
